The year 2009 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the outbreak of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. When studying the revolutionary processes of the so-called Third World during the Cold War period, many possible edges emerge for analysis. This revolution was born and positioned, on the international plane, as belonging to the Third Position, an alternative path in a world apparently divided into two blocs. On the other hand, looking inside Iran itself, the national project that this new Islamic Republic had to adopt, had to go through problematic paths marked by ethnic, religious and political differences. This caused Iran to be linked to the regional panorama in an intricate and difficult to resolve manner.
