Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Cuadernos del CLAEH is a biannual journal open to the publication of research articles and original essays, contributions, critiques and literature reviews, interviews of interest to professionals, students and readers interested in the social sciences and humanities. Periodically Cuadernos del CLAEH will dedicate an issue to a central theme with a specific call for papers, but contributions on topics of politics, society and culture are always welcome.

Cuadernos del CLAEH receives unpublished works only in Spanish or Portuguese. Papers sent for evaluation and eventual publication must be unpublished and not pending evaluation in other journals, including electronic editions.

Cuadernos del CLAEH is a refereed journal for original academic contributions and research articles. The arbitration is carried out with the anonymity of authors and evaluators. Authors will be careful not to reveal their identity in the article.

Cuadernos del CLAEH is an Open Access publication, so authors are asked to accompany their submissions with a caption that reads: "Original material authorized for first publication in Cuadernos del CLAEH", since the rights to the published material for subsequent editions are reserved by the author.

Works will be sent through the editorial management platform, completing the submission form (prior registration is required). They will be subjected to an initial review to confirm that they comply with the general conditions established in this document (that they are in line with the contents of the journal and comply with the checklist that appears below on this page). In accordance with the guidelines of the academic edition, all manuscripts received by Cuadernos del CLAEH are subjected to anti-plagiarism controls. Once all the above has been verified and the relevance of the text submitted confirmed, the originals will be sent to the reviewers, preserving the anonymity of the author(s).

The originals approved for evaluation will be submitted to arbitration according to the double-blind system. Evaluators will have a maximum of three weeks to prepare a report. The result of the evaluation may be:

  1. approved for publication, in which case it will be published without modification;
  2. publishable with amendments, when a minor revision is required;
  3. re-evaluable, if the required revision is substantial and must be re-arbitrated; and
  4. unpublishable —in which case the original will be returned to the author(s)—.

In cases 2 and 3 the text will be returned to the author(s) with suggested adjustments and, if they are attended to, the process indicated by the evaluators will be followed (publication with adjustments or new revision, respectively). Cuadernos del CLAEH reserves the right to accept or reject the papers, in accordance with the thematic scope and strict compliance with the editorial rules.

In addition to the main theme of the issue (dossier), Cuadernos del CLAEH is, as always, open to receiving other contributions whose topics are linked to the journal's themes (politics, society and culture, etc.).

PRESENTATION OF ORIGINALS

Articles in Spanish or Portuguese will be accepted. For any other language the authors will be responsible for providing the translated version in one of these two languages.

Articles must be unpublished and between 4000 and 6000 words, including notes and bibliography according to the attached rules.

The title of the article will not exceed 15 words, including the subtitle if any.

The use of footnotes will be avoided unless they are essential. Footnotes may not be included at the end.

Articles will be accompanied by an abstract of up to 150 words and up to four key words. Both the abstract and the key words must be submitted in the language of the main text and in English.

The texts will be submitted to anonymous arbitration by two specialists in the subject, if Cuadernos del CLAEH decides that they coincide with the editorial line of the journal.

All images must be accompanied by accurate and sufficient information about their source. For images from third parties, Cuadernos del CLAEH understands that the author has requested and received the relevant reproduction permits and is not responsible for unauthorised use and the legal consequences of infringement of intellectual property rights.

Tables, photos, drawings, charts, plans, maps, etc. must be numbered consecutively; they will be considered as figures and inserted in the body of the text, in a place close to their first mention. The graphic documentation will be provided with the contents of the text, of sufficient quality and clearly arranged.

Image format. The images included in the articles will have a maximum dimension of 700 x 1100 pixels (18.5 x 29 cm) and a minimum resolution of 300 ppp. The figures and images will be presented in .jpg .png .eps or .tiff format. Drawings of materials, planimetries, etc. shall have a minimum resolution of 600 dpi. Tables and graphs shall always be delivered in Excel format (or other compatible software).

Cuadernos del CLAEH receives other contributions that it does not submit to arbitration:

Book reviews (between 800 and 1.500 words; with emphasis on the description of the opinion; without footnotes) of texts published in the last three years that have to do with the general theme of the journal or the issue, when it is a monographic edition;

Bibliographic essays (between 1.000 and 3.000 words; with emphasis on the opinion on the description; without footnotes) that have to do with the general theme of the magazine or issue, when it is a monographic edition;

Reviews of events (between 1.000 and 2.500 words; no footnotes) linked to the general theme of the journal or issue when it is a monographic edition and carried out in the year immediately preceding its publication.

Reviews of archives and documentary repositories (between 1.000 and 2.500 words, without footnotes) on topics of interest to the journal.

Format of the texts. All texts will be sent in Word format or similar.

Textual references of less than four lines will be included in the text with quotes (without italics). If they exceed that length, they will appear in a separate paragraph, with an indentation of 3 cm and in normal text.

Quotations and references should be made according to the APA style.

Quotations are presented in the text of the paper using the author-date system (placing the author's last name, followed by the date of publication in parentheses). Two types of quotations are distinguished: textual and non-textual (paraphrase).
